Claude Code now supports design with the /design command in CLI and Desktop
Claude Code has received a new research preview of the /design command, integrating Claude Design's artboard workflow into the CLI and Desktop environments. Users can run /design to get editable artboards for their UI, select one, modify it, and have Claude implement it.
Code is critically important, but the design through which a person interacts with it matters equally. Lovable has made a big impact, but Claude from Anthropic has also been working for some time to make sure its creations are not ugly. Personally, I use the /impeccable plugin in Claude Code and I'm waiting for Anthropic to enable /design, because I don't see it in my Claude Desktop environment yet. It seems that this feature is being rolled out server-side, because some users have it and some don't.
What is Claude Code and how does it differ from Claude Desktop?
Claude Code is a command-line interface (CLI) for interacting with the Claude model and executing individual commands. Claude Desktop is a graphical environment for working with Claude that offers a more user-friendly interface. Both now receive the same features, including the new /design command.
What is /design and how is it used?
/design is a new experimental command that generates editable artboards for user interfaces. Users run the command, select one of the proposed designs, can modify it, and then Claude implements it into code.
Who has access to the /design command?
The /design command is available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users. It is being rolled out gradually, with some accounts receiving access earlier than others.
