AlzaPower Ultimate X570 tested: 100W for 22 minutes, sustained power 80W
The author measured a GaN charger AlzaPower Ultimate X570 with a declared output of 100W. The charger maintained full power only for 22 minutes before reaching 65°C and triggering thermal protection. During continuous operation, it stabilizes at 80W with a surface temperature of 70.9°C. The thermal protection works reliably and the charger did not fail.
What is the actual continuous power output?
The true continuous power is 80W, at which the charger can operate indefinitely without throttling. The declared 100W is only a short-term peak lasting approximately 20–25 minutes before thermal protection kicks in and reduces output.
How hot does the charger get?
At 100W, the surface reaches 65°C within 22 minutes, triggering thermal protection. At stabilized 80W output, the surface temperature settles at 70.9°C. Testing was done at room temperature of 25.3°C; warmer environments would produce higher temperatures.
What are the practical implications for users?
For charging phones, tablets, and ultrabooks, this is not problematic. If charging a device that constantly draws full 100W (such as a gaming laptop), charging will slow to 80W. Simultaneous use of both ports reduces the main USB-C to 65W output.
Does the charger's thermal protection work correctly?
Yes, the protection functions exactly as designed. When the charger overheated, it disconnected output instead of suffering damage. At lower power, it resumed operation and ran stably. The only positive aspect is that it prevented self-destruction.
